Donate Toward Lime For The Fields
£10.00
The last time we applied lime to our fields was in 2019, as part of our land management. Over time, soil naturally becomes more acidic, which can affect the growth and quality of the grasses our horses graze and that we cut for haylage. By applying lime, we can rebalance the soil’s pH, helping to grow healthier, more nutritious grass. We do not like to use chemicals on the land to eradicate weeds so by reducing the acidity of the soil we anticipate the weeds will not thrive as well as the grass.
This year, we’ve noticed that the horses aren’t enjoying the haylage as much as they have in the past. They’re picking through it, and it’s had more weeds than usual. To improve grass growth and create the best environment for them, we’re going to apply lime across our main grazing and haylage fields, which cover 33 acres.
Applying agricultural lime helps to:
- Balance soil pH, creating the best conditions for strong, healthy grass.
- Support better grazing and forage, ensuring the horses get the best from the land.
- Improve soil structure, keeping the fields healthy for years to come.
The cost of the lime and spreading it is around £3,000. If you’d like to support this important work, every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.
