Keeping The Boys in line, teaching Nero how to adult, and proudly being just a tad weird!

Oebe has been a permanent sanctuary resident since December 2022. His owners made contact when they found themselves unable to offer him the care he needed. When he arrived, he was quite underweight and had little muscle. Following an initial assessment, he spent time in the turnouts and fields with the other boys and girls, during which time his affection for the girls and dominant personality came to light. This told us his established position within the herd which allowed us to work to help him fit in. He needed a lot of extra feed but slowly began to put on weight, muscle and condition. Oebe is a sweet, goofy boy who loves attention, especially scratches on his neck and chest. Even though he’s an older boy, he doesn’t act like it and has a very youthful outlook. He lives out 24/7 with Ysbrand, Hannes, and several of the other sanctuary boys. Due to his passion for the girls, he is known as the ‘Dirty Old Man’! He would love to be Hidde so he could go out with all the girls, but last time he did, he got put in his place by one of them who wasn’t so keen on his rather forward manner! Oebe loves his boy pals and plays with them in the turnout, especially Mr. JB and our latest sanctuary resident, Nero. We don't know Oebe’s full history, but we know that he did some carriage driving before he came to us. We didn't want to ask him to work in the traditional sense of riding or driving, but as he has an active mind, he now enjoys groundwork sessions once or twice a week with Freya. The two of them are enjoying the learning journey together. A few of his odd quirks have prompted Freya to affectionately nickname him "Weirdo". Aside from loving opportunities to hang out with his four-legged buddies, he's also quite fond of spending time in the Friendship Barn getting spoiled by our two-legged visitors. Like all the horses, Oebe is guaranteed a home for life at the Farm. You can follow his journey on our YouTube channel and our social media pages. |
